Unofficial guide. Rules can change each year. Always confirm with your school counselor and the official Prosper ISD sources linked at the bottom.

The kinds of advanced courses

  • Honors (5.5): the same standards as the regular course, with more depth and complexity.
  • GT courses: for students identified as gifted. Most carry Honors weight; GT Humanities II and GT American Studies carry AP weight.
  • AP (6.0): college-level courses with an AP exam in May that may earn college credit, depending on the college.
  • Dual credit and dual enrollment (6.0): college courses that earn high school and college credit at the same time.

Prosper ISD has open enrollment for these courses, and encourages students to think about prerequisites and time, and to keep a balance with activities and personal time.

AP courses in the course guide

  • English: AP English III (Language), AP English IV (Literature)
  • Math: AP Precalculus, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics
  • Science: AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, AP Physics C
  • Social studies: AP Human Geography, AP World History, AP US History, AP European History, AP Government, AP Economics, AP Psychology
  • World languages: AP Spanish IV and V, AP French IV, AP Chinese IV
  • Fine arts: AP Art History, AP Music Theory, AP 2-D Art and Design, AP 3-D Art and Design, AP Drawing
  • Computer science and research: AP Computer Science Principles, AP Computer Science A, AP Seminar, AP Research

Not every course is offered on every campus every year.

AP exams and fees

  • 2027 AP exams: May 3–7 and May 10–14. Scores come out in July.
  • College Board's exam fee is set each year (see the official fee page below), with a $40 late fee for exams ordered after November 13, 2026. Your school's sign-up deadline comes earlier.
  • Students pay their exam fees; Prosper ISD says scholarships are available. Ask your counselor or campus testing coordinator.

Dual credit with Collin College

  • Students can take the dual credit courses listed in Prosper ISD's catalog, starting the summer after 10th grade: college English, math, biology, US history, economics, government, speech, learning frameworks, art appreciation, and medical terminology.
  • Students pay tuition, fees and books. Students with financial need should talk with their counselor; the Prosper Education Foundation offers scholarships.
  • Dual credit follows Collin College's calendar, so classes can meet when Prosper ISD is on break. A parent signs an attendance waiver in Skyward each year.
  • Dropping in the first ten class days moves you to the matching high school course without penalty. Withdrawing later leaves a "W" on the college transcript.
  • In-person dual credit in the fall or spring counts in weighted GPA. Summer or online dual credit doesn't (Classes of 2026–2030).

Special programs

  • Celina Cohort: juniors and seniors take college classes each morning at Collin College's Celina campus and can earn up to 50 college hours. Transportation is provided, and it's free for students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
  • Health science pathways: CNA, EKG technician, EMT, patient care technician, rehabilitation aide and medical scribe. Apply in December and January; extra costs and a stricter grading scale apply.
  • Cybersecurity at Richland High School: a two-year dual credit pathway starting in 11th grade.

Dual enrollment with Tarleton State

  • Tarleton Today courses are taught by Prosper ISD teachers, with online college materials.
  • At the end of the course, you choose whether to accept the college credit and grade.
  • The course guide lists $50 per college credit hour ($150 for a 3-hour course, $200 for a 4-hour course), with reduced fees for students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
  • Courses include Advanced Animal Science, Anatomy and Physiology, and Education and Training (Instructional Practices).

Eligibility for activities

Under Prosper ISD's policy, the advanced courses on the district's list (Honors, GT, AP and dual credit courses) are exempt from "no pass, no play" as long as you keep at least a 50 average.
